GARNET is the birthstone for the month of January. The garnet signifies eternal friendship and trust. It is also symbolic of love and desire and is thought to be protective during journeys and travel. The word - Garnet- is derived from the word granatum meaning seed, as it can resemble a pomegranate seed. Most commonly it is RED in coloration but garnets also comes in hues of yellow, orange, rosy pinks, violets and even lime green! The color diversity is due to the different combinations of elements within each individual gem- iron, calcium and manganese all influence the gem's color. Today's garnet sources are Africa, Sri Lanka and India.
