The New Year is here. It’s already mid-January, which got me
thinking about new goals. New Year’s Eve resolutions are far too
often simply a promise we make to ourselves, fleetingly broken.
It seems we make resolutions, only to see them falter, and then
we quickly give up. Instead of resolutions, why not make a few
small changes to our lives to foster success?
Three simple changes can make a huge difference in our lives –
and change our outlook for the better. As I kick off another year
of expanding my business in the cruise industry, a few thoughts
have been percolating in my brain about how to take better care
of myself and be the best I can be in order to grow my business
into the best it can be.
More ZZZs
Lack of sleep has a huge impact on our productivity! Women, in
particular, tend to burn the candle at both ends…guilty as
charged. Short-term effects of sleep deprivation can include
irritability and a loss of motivation, and when these continue to
manifest, they can contribute to mood disorders, including
depression. Getting to bed at a more reasonable hour and getting
more rest can positively impact our productivity during the day –
so let’s make it a goal to get more sleep! It’s always tempting
to try and get one more thing done before bed…but don’t! (Read
more about the need for good sleep HERE!)

We hear it all the time…drink more water. And
for good reason, our bodies are made up of 60% water! We need to
replenish the fluids in our system rather than becoming
dehydrated. Water also energizes our muscles and keeps our skin
looking its best! So, grab a glass of water more frequently. If
you feel thirsty, you’re already getting dehydrated. So, raise a
glass with me – cheers!
More Gratitude
One of the best ways to change your outlook is to take stock of
what you have. Some might call it counting your blessings or
mindfulness. I think of it as a gratitude list. When I truly
acknowledge the people, situations, opportunities, adventures I
have had in the last year, month, week – it not only lifts my
spirits but also my outlook. Seeing what I actually have, what I
have accomplished, the people who love and support me – what an
encouragement to keep moving forward. So celebrate your
accomplishments! Let them remind you what you are capable of and
encourage you to seek new adventures!
As for me, 2019 has much to offer and I am determined to stay
present and grateful. And of course, drink more water and get
more sleep!
