Our mixed metal earrings feature a beautiful white pearl on a textured 18k vermeil disc accented with Mandarin quartz and blue topaz. The acid etched metal combined with gemstones in colors of the ocean and sand create a peaceful quality, or as we like to stay, a pure vida lifestyle. “Pura Vida” expresses a state of grace when you are living with the flow of the universe, rather than against it.
Why do oysters have pearls?
Only oysters 1 year or older are mature oysters that can produce pearls. Pearls are the result of a biological process within the oyster. When a foreign substance like a grain of sand or other irritant gets inside its shell, the oyster responds to this foreign body by coating it with nacre, also known as mother-of-pearl, which over time forms a pearl. The most beautiful pearls — the kind used for jewelry — are perfectly round. Not all pearls turn out this way, though. Some pearls form in uneven shapes. These less-than-perfect pearls are known as baroque pearls.
What do Pearls Mean?
Topaz, Mandarin and pearl all have properties to help with good decision making and keeping life in balance. Mandarin can vitalize life energy and help you to get rid of anxiety or worries for the future. Blue topaz symbolizes honesty, clarity of feelings, and deep emotional attachment.
Pearls symbolize purity, as well as integrity and loyalty. They represent wisdom gained through experience. These gems of the sea are believed to offer protection to the wearer, as well as attract good luck and wealth. Colored pearls are found in wonderful exotic locations like the Cook Islands, Japan, China, Fiji, Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, Tahiti, Mexico, India, Thailand, Venezuela, Vietnam, the United States and even Hawaii.
