What is Fire Agate?

Fire agate is a rare brown agate with shifting flashes of yellow, red, orange, and green caused by its rounded internal structure (botryoidal habit). It’s a phenomenal gem, meaning it interacts with light to create changing iridescent colors as the gem, light, or viewer moves. Though similar to opal’s play-of-color, its effect is different and not caused by dispersion like a diamond’s “fire.”
