What is Gem Silica?
Even though gem silica is one of the most beautiful blue gemstones, most people have never heard of it. That is because it is a very rare gem. Originally found as a byproduct of copper mining, gem silica forms in the oxidation zones above and adjacent to copper ore bodies. Due to its rarity, small deposits, and its status as a byproduct of copper mining, gem silica is very scarce. It is mined in the United States, primarily in Arizona, from mines such as Inspiration Mine, Ray Mine, and Miami Mine. Learn more
