It’s a funny thing, when I hear the phrase homemade jewelry. I suspect that someone who is an artist, hand making jewelry, who hears that term does not have the same response that I do. There’s this whole movement towards “slow food,” and the other day I saw somebody making “slow clothes.” They were actually growing the fiber on their own sheep, spinning it, and moving forward from there. I really think that that’s how the term homemade jewelry is being used now. It’s handcrafting. Perhaps “handcrafting” is a word that’s a little bit overused. However, homemade jewelry is taking on a flow and an energy of its own. It doesn’t have to mean that you’re down in the basement hammering away on something to give your grandma for Christmas. Homemade jewelry is just another way of saying “handcrafted,” and maybe to the next level is some form, fashion or mentality.
