Crafted in 18k vermeil over sterling silver, these stunning earrings deserve the perfect, secure earring back — “omega backs” made by Italian craftsmen.
These secure earring backs are an evolution of the popular earclips of the 1940s and 50s and take their name from their uncanny resemblance to the Greek letter omega – Ω. The ends of the looped finding attach to the earring via a hinge. When closed over the post the rounded end of the omega back holds to the ear via pressure for a secure fit.
The Edge collection of rings, earrings and bracelets was inspired by Wabi sabi, an ancient aesthetic philosophy rooted in Zen Buddhism. One definition of Wabi-sabi is the view or thought of finding beauty in every aspect of imperfection in nature.
On holiday in the Maldives, my hotel room had an interesting room divider made from woven twigs and branches. It was asymmetrical yet perfectly balanced with a structure that was both strong structure and free flowing. This is what I believe I achieved with the Edge collection: embracing the philosophy of “beauty in imperfection” with purposeful alterations in symmetry and metal texture while achieving perfect balance.
What is Vermeil Jewelry? Vermeil is more hypoallergenic and has a thicker layer of gold than “gold plating,” which is why we use it for our fine jewelry. Also known as “gilded silver,” vermeil jewelry won’t tarnish.
Edge Earrings are also available in 14k gold, sterling silver with white rhodium plating for anti-tarnish, and black and gold.
